REIKI

About Reiki

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique. The predominate form of reiki practiced throughout the world today, also known as Usui reiki, was created by Dr. Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. It's a complementary or alternative health approach. Reiki does not directly cure diseases or illnesses. Instead, it's used as a way to manage symptoms and improve general well-being.

During a reiki session, the practitioner places their hands either directly on you or just above you to bring about healing. The belief is that the practitioner is able to stimulate your body's natural healing abilities.

Reiki is defined as spiritually guided life energy.

Many believe that Mikao Usui (Usui Sensei), was the original creator of Reiki. The term Reiki refers only to the healing method he developed and discovered. However, it is clear that Reiki was not the only healing modality that Mikao Usui created. There were also at least four other types of Reiki that were being used in Japan before him (William Lee Rand: An Evidence Based History of Reiki).

Usui Sensei, a Japanese student, went to Kurama yama near Kyoto (Japan) to attain An-shin Ritsu–mei in February 1922. This special state of consciousness would allow one to understand one's purpose in life and guide them to achieving it. To achieve An-shin Ritsu -mei, one must be willing and able to die. This is what Usui Sensii wanted to accomplish in 1922 by fasting until he reached the new world.

He fell unconscious after a strong light struck his brain through his top. It happened at midnight on the twenty-first of March 1922. He soon realized that he had received the gift of healing in addition to the illuminating experience. He realized that his purpose in this life was to heal others and train them.

He moved to Tokyo in April 1922 and founded a healing society called Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai. His system of healing, which he named Shin-Shin Zen Usui Reiki Ryoho or Usui Reiki Ryoho, was then created.

He developed three Reiki symbols over time, which are what Reiki II students receive today; he didn't have a Master symbol until Hawayo Takata Seni developed it.

More than 2000 pupils learned from Mikao Ui and were inducted into twenty Shihan (teachers).

Are there risks or side effects?

Reiki is non-invasive, and it's considered safeTrusted source. There are no known side effects. It can be difficult to lie in a darkened room alone with someone you love if you have suffered from trauma.

Reiki cannot replace any doctor-approved treatment plan.

What happens during a reiki session?

An reiki session typically lasts between 20 to 90 minutes. Your reiki practitioner will meet you at your first appointment. The first appointment will include a brief introduction and a discussion about the process, your expectations and intentions. Your practitioner should know about any symptoms that you would like to be addressed and where you would like them to concentrate. Let the practitioner know if there are any injuries you may have or sensitive areas.

The treatment table will be set up and you will be asked to lay down on the mat or treatment table. A blanket will be placed on top of you. The background music is usually soft and relaxing. The session will not involve any speaking, although you are welcome to talk to your practitioner if you feel the need to be more relaxed or to share anything you feel.

The practitioner will touch your body with their hands. You may feel them touch your skin lightly, or they may place their hands on your abdomen.

Some people may feel heat or tingling in their bodies. Some people have reported seeing colors, pictures or memories or visualizations. Allow whatever happens to you to unfold without attaching too many meanings. Reiki can make your experiences more profound.
